June 1 marks the start of hurricane season. With most of our offices located in Southeast Texas and Louisiana, we’ve seen a thing or two when it comes to storms.
The Need-to-Know tip for the week: Assemble your hurricane preparedness kit NOW before supplies become unavailable.
Below are some essentials for your hurricane preparedness kit:
- Water: one gallon per person, per day (don’t forget pets)
- Food: non-perishable, easy-to-prepare items
- Can opener
- Flashlight
- Battery-powered or hand-crank radio
- Extra batteries
- First aid kit
- Medications and medical items
- Copies of personal documents (medication list and pertinent medical information, proof of address, deed/lease to home, passports, birth certificates, insurance policies)
- Portable charger(s) for cell phones
- Family and emergency contact information
- Paper maps with potential evacuation routes
- Extra cash
- Extra fuel for generator and car
- Personal hygiene items (Toilet paper, soap, hand sanitizer, etc.)
- Charcoal or propane tank for a grill
You may need to include medical care, baby, and/or pet supplies depending on your needs. Stocking up on tools, work gloves, trash bags, and other cleanup supplies is also a good idea.
Be on the lookout for next week’s safety tip!

We're making significant progress on the Austin County Wallis EMS Station!
The vinyl, insulation, and metal panels for the standing seam roof system are being installed while trenches are being dug for the underground electrical power supply to the building. Additionally, wooden studs are being installed for the exterior walls receiving a brick veneer. Next up for the exterior of the building is to finish the roof canopies and install brick. Keep up the great work, team!

EMS Week is May 21-27! One of the best ways to honor EMTs, paramedics, and volunteers is by reaching out to your local EMS station. Each station has different needs, so ask what they would most appreciate.
Check out one of our completed EMS facilities located in Sealy, Texas. This new construction of an 8,300-square-foot EMS facility is the first of four CBG-constructed EMS stations for Austin County. The facility includes four apparatus bays, five dorms, a meeting room, a day room, a kitchen, and dining areas.
